The diagnosis is back. Apparently Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano has inflammation and tendinitis in the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder. The club claims he might be able to make his next start against the Astros next weekend and that biz had an anti-inflammatory injection.
I think I can back away from the ledge now, but only by a step. This Rich Harden talk is still scaring me, and after five years of a steady Mark Prior Watch, I’ve learned to be skeptical on how the Cubs talk about their pitchers. And while this isn’t his-season-is-over talk for Zambrano, the jury may still be deliberating.
Maybe now, though, we’ll see an end to those 135-pitch outings for Big Z.
At least for this year.
As long as he pitches.
Into October.
Effectively.
Often.
OK, I’m back on the ledge now…
Z or no Z, right now we are a team that is playing really bad baseball. We need to wake up and I can only hope that getting blown out in CIncy is that call. Unfortunately we turn to Jason Marquis to stop the bleeding tonight. Let’s hope for a streak stopper tonight.
